Why Should One Worship Lord Krishna?

Why Should One Worship Lord Krishna – Krsna is hailed as the Supreme Person in almost all of Vedic scriptures. Then why people in general are not able to comprehend if it’s so straightforward? The reason is that people do not bother to read the scriptures scrutinizingly and even when they do, they get flowing by the myriad of explanations on the multitude of dimensions the scriptures portray. Thus they miss the real meaning. So let us see how Krsna can be accepte as the Supreme Personality from the ontological (Vedic), historical and empirical perspectives.

Why Should One Worship Lord Krishna

As per the knowledge of the revealed scriptures, we understand that Brahma composed hymns to the Absolute Truth in which he enunciates quite meticulously the position of Krishna and of the demigods viz-a-viz the Absolute Truth. The four principal demigods, namely Durga, Siva, Ganesa and Surya are mere transformations of the Absolute Truth for specific purposes. More so, Brahma explains how the Supreme Lord Sri Krsna, who is difficult to obtain even after hard and laborious study of the Vedas, can be easily obtained through devotional service.

In the Bhagavad gita, Krsna says vedesu sarvam aham eva vedyo which means that the objective of the Vedic study is nothing but to know Krsna as He is. In the Gita Mahatmya composed by one of the greatest philosophers and saints of his time, Sripad Sankaracarya, he exhorts the people to follow just one sastra, the Bhagavad gita, worship just one God, Lord Sri Krsna, chant just one mantra, the Hare Krsna mantra and perform just one occupation, service unto Krsna’s lotus feet.

One of the greatest spiritual exponents of all time, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who appeared 500 years ago in Bengal, propounded the worship of the selfsame Lord Sri Krsna, as a cowherd boy sporting in Vrndavana with His eternal devotees. By Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s unprecedented and most esoteric pastimes, we understand that He was no ordinary saint rather the Supreme Lord Sri Krsna in His devotee incarnation teaching people by His own example whom to and how to worship.

What are the benefits of worshipping Krishna?

The scriptures abound with the pastimes of Lord Krsna, who appeared on this planet 5000 years ago. Lord Krsna lived on the planet for 125 years and performed unprecedented extraordinary activities in the course of His life. Such activities are not performe by anyone at any time in history. When He was a six days’ old infant, He exterminated a nefarious demoness by sucking life out of her breast through which she attempted to kill the Lord. As He grew up, He fought formidable demons like Trnavarta, Aghasura, Dhenukasura and many akin and delivered them by putting an end to their lives by His own hands.

Later when He went to gurukula, He saved His guru, Sandipani muni’s dead son by bringing Him back from yamaloka. When Krsna was 125 years old, He spoke the Bhagavad gita in the midst of boisterous clamour in order to stir up a dispirited Arjuna and that same Bhagavad gita continues to inspire millions of all those who take the shelter of Krsna’s nectarean words humbly. The definition of Absolute Truth as has been given by Parasara muni, a great spiritual authority, is that Absolute Truth is one who
possesses six opulences, viz., strength, beauty, wealth, wisdom, fame and renunciation in infinite fullness.

Only Krsna demonstrates that. His fame lasts eternity, even though He ran away from the battlefield, He is celebrat as Ranachoda. He married and maintained 16,108 queens in Dvaraka fort, such great was His wealth. Like this, we see Krsna demonstrated complete fullness in all these six opulences.

On an objective and empirical perspective, we see that only God can declare Himself as God. No mundane and/or transcendental personality can ever declare

sarva dharman parityajya
mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva papebhyo
moksasyisyami ma sucah

This gem of a statement is the final didactic utterance from the lotus mouth of Krsna through which He advises all humanity to surrender unto Him for surrendering unto Him is superior to all other dharmas and so forsaking other dharmas in lieu of surrender to Krsna is most desirable. He boldly asserts that He will accept the sins of one and all who surrender to Him and will grant liberation to them.

Who can or has ever made such an assertion? Who can accept and destroy the sins of unlimited souls who seek His shelter? Whose shelter once taken, will protect one from adversities and calamities of all kind? Verily, it must be the Absolute Truth Himself.

So let us beseech our minds towards the lotus feet of Krsna, let us worship Them with full faith and unflinching devotion. Krsna’s lotus feet will save one from the greatest debacles of life and will award fearlessness and fortitude of immeasurable spirit. Let us not direct it to anything else for only the Absolute Truth can satisfy the fastidious souls. Let us all take exclusive shelter of Lord Sri Krsna !!
