Hare Krishna!! – Development is what everyone seek for. Nobody wants to go progressing towards a negative slope. If we want to check anyone’s progress, we judge him by the qualities or qualifications he acquire. What will be the utility if there is no such qualification we have, that the company or boss need?? NO UTILITY!!

Let’s talk onto this wonderful topic with scriptural insight…
In SB(5.18.12), it is stated “All the demigods and their exalted qualities, such as religion, knowledge and renunciation, become manifest in the body of one who has developed unalloyed devotion for the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vāsudeva. On the other hand, a person devoid of devotional service and engaged in material activities has no good qualities. Even if he is adept at the practice of mystic yoga or the honest endeavor of maintaining his family and relatives, he must be driven by his own mental speculations and must engage in the service of the Lord’s external energy. How can there be any good qualities in such a man?”

There are a total of 26 divine qualities, as illustrated in BG(16.1-3). We can further inquire, “Alright! but what is to be done then. What if I do not have these qualifications??” These qualities lead us to liberation. Other qualities, like as pride, arrogance, anger etc., are meant for further bondage.
Development should lead to liberation. Otherwise, it will be designated as ‘development by name’ only. Today, civilisation is leading to progress with godlessness. Godlessness means no divine qualifications. Simple meaning: NO Development.
How is it possible????
How is it possible???? Let’s dive deeper into the profound analogy that reveals the secret to spiritual growth.
The Analogy
Just as residing near dirt and dust inevitably leads to contamination, associating with a noble, godly person naturally instills their virtues within us. This principle highlights the importance of surrounding ourselves with positive influences.
The Consequences of Distance
When we drift away from the Supreme Lord, we:
- Get contaminated by non-divine energies*: Worldly influences can lead us astray, hindering our spiritual progress.
- Develop a non-divine mentality*: Our thoughts and actions become tainted by materialistic tendencies.
- Become trapped in bodily consciousness*: We forget our true nature and potential.
The Reality of Progress
Progress in bodily conception is *NOT* real progress. True growth lies in:
- Tuning ourselves to auspiciousness*: Aligning with divine energies and qualities.
- Cultivating divine qualities*: Developing virtues like compassion, humility, and wisdom.
- Fostering real development*: Achieving spiritual growth and self-realization.
