In this chapter, Krishna is explaining Arjuna the process to acquire Transcendental knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>In answer to query of Arjuna about the cause of all sinful activities, Krishna explains that lust is the only cause of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving towards the solution of it, Krishna says that one must first steady the mind through spiritual intelligence, and by the acquired spiritual strength one can easily conquer lust. He had earlier spoken Bhagavad Gita to sun-god, Vivasvan and from here the disciplic succession started-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>\u015br\u012b-bhagav\u0101n uv\u0101ca<\/em><br>ima\u1e41 vivasvate yoga\u1e41<br>proktav\u0101n aham avyayam<br>vivasv\u0101n manave pr\u0101ha<br>manur ik\u1e63v\u0101kave \u2019brav\u012bt<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><u><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Translation<\/span><\/u>:&nbsp;<\/strong>The Supreme Lord Shree Krishna said: I taught this eternal science of Yog to the Sun-god, Vivasvan, who passed it on to Manu; and Manu in turn instructed it to Ikshvaku.<strong>[BG 4.1]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Iksvaku dynasty we have personalities like Ambarisha, Dilipa, Sagara, Anshumana, Bhagirataha, Dashratha, Rama. But in the due course of time, people started giving their personal explanations and hence deviated from the real knowledge, and disciplic succession was broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus to reestablish the Parampara, Krishna spoke this Transcendental knowledge, the science of the relationship with Him, to Arjuna.  The spirit of understanding the Bhagavad Gita is mentioned in Verse 3- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>sa ev\u0101ya\u1e41 may\u0101 te \u2019dya<br>yoga\u1e25 prokta\u1e25 pur\u0101tana\u1e25<br>bhakto \u2019si me sakh\u0101 ceti<br>rahasya\u1e41 hy etad uttamam<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Translation- <\/strong>That very ancient science of the relationship with the Supreme is today told by Me to you because you are My devotee as well as My friend and can therefore understand the transcendental mystery of this science.<strong>[BG 4.3]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One should be a devotee of Krishna to get this knowledge revealed. Nobody other than a devotee can understand this science, doesn\u2019t matter how materially intelligent he is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Krishnas_appearance\"><\/span>Krishna&#8217;s appearance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Just to remove the doubts of &#8216;Doubting Thomas&#8217;, Arjun asks Krishna, how is it that He spoke to sun god over 120 million years ago, although He is his contemporary. Krishna answers that although both, Arjuna and He, have taken many births, He remembers all of them, but Arjuna cannot. He Himself directed us as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to chant His holy names to get liberated from this cycle of birth and death. Krishna says to Arjuna that one who understands this spiritual science through a bonafide Parampara, surely gets liberation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>janma karma ca me divyam<br>eva\u1e41 yo vetti tattvata\u1e25<br>tyaktv\u0101 deha\u1e41 punar janma<br>naiti m\u0101m eti so \u2019rjuna<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Translation- <\/strong>One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.<strong>[BG 4.9]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summum_BonumBG_410-415\"><\/span><strong>Summum Bonum<\/strong>(BG 4.10-4.15)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Krishna says that many many persons have perfected their lives with this transcendental knowledge acquired through parampara. Ultimately everyone surrenders to Krishna willingly or unwillingly since Krishna is the intermediate, immediate, ultimate cause of everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we cultivate Transcendental Knowledge &#8211; we must be situated in Varna and Krishna says in Verse 13 that the 4 Varnas are created by Him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>c\u0101tur-var\u1e47ya\u1e41 may\u0101 s\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e6da\u1e41<br>gu\u1e47a-karma-vibh\u0101ga\u015ba\u1e25<br>tasya kart\u0101ram api m\u0101\u1e41<br>viddhy akart\u0101ram avyayam<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Translation- <\/strong>According to the three modes of material nature and the work associated with them, the four divisions of human society are created by Me. And although I am the creator of this system, you should know that I am yet the non-doer, being unchangeable.<strong>[BG 4.13]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Krishna is the Summum Bonum of everything and this knowledge will awaken in our hearts only when we are strongly connected with the Parampara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"InactionBG_416-424\"><\/span>Inaction(BG 4.16-4.24)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One who has received the mercy of all the acharyas in the parampara can understand, what is action, Inaction, and Capricious action. Meat eating, illicit sex, intoxication, and gambling come under capricious action. Inaction is not inertness. Inaction means Krishna Consciousness.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verse 24 is the heart of Ch 4. It is the basis of what is inaction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>brahm\u0101rpa\u1e47a\u1e41 brahma havir<br>brahm\u0101gnau brahma\u1e47\u0101 hutam<br>brahmaiva tena gantavya\u1e41<br>brahma-karma-sam\u0101dhin\u0101<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Translation- <\/strong>A person who is fully absorbed in K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a consciousness is sure to attain the spiritual kingdom because of his full contribution to spiritual activities, in which the consummation is absolute and that which is offered is of the same spiritual nature.<strong>[BG 4.24]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When everything is dovetailed in the service of Krishna, the actor, performer(instrument), performance, and ingredients, everything attains the nature of divinity. Inaction is Krishna&#8217;s Conscious action that is pleasing to Krishna. Anything that doesn\u2019t please Krishna is called action. The example of Srila Prabhupada, founder Acharya of ISKCON, helps us understand this better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/learngitalivegita.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/unnamed.jpg\" alt=\"Bhagavad Gita Ch 4 Summary- Transcendental  Knowledge\" class=\"wp-image-1178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/learngitalivegita.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/unnamed.jpg 512w, https:\/\/learngitalivegita.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/unnamed-300x237.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Prabhupada changed the rules and regulations according to time, place, and circumstances, such that more and more people can become Krishna-conscious. He gave up the rigid stigma of Vedic knowledge. He allowed a non-Brahmana to worship, ladies were made Pujaris. Since all his actions pleased Krishna, he was able to successfully spread the movement throughout the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sacrifice_BG_425-433\"><\/span>Sacrifice (BG 4.25-4.33)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Sacrifice must be performed, otherwise, we cannot be happy. There are different forms of sacrifices performed according to varna and ashrama. Brahmacharis must strictly control their senses by constantly hearing and Grihasthas must give up sense gratification. In Verse 33 Krishna says that when one performs sacrifice, Transcendental Knowledge is the concomitant factor. How do you know that you are performing sacrifice? That should elevate you in Krishna consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Transcendental_KnowledgeBG_434-442\"><\/span>Transcendental Knowledge(BG 4.34-4.42)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Verse 34 is very important in which Krishna describes the way to receive Transcendental knowledge from a teacher in Parampara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>tad viddhi pra\u1e47ip\u0101tena<br>paripra\u015bnena sevay\u0101<br>upadek\u1e63yanti te j\u00f1\u0101na\u1e41<br>j\u00f1\u0101ninas tattva-dar\u015bina\u1e25<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Translation- <\/strong>Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The process of burning sin is painful and we require help from a teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Verse 43 represents the conclusion of this chapter.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>tasm\u0101d aj\u00f1\u0101na-sambh\u016bta\u1e41<br>h\u1e5bt-stha\u1e41 j\u00f1\u0101n\u0101sin\u0101tmana\u1e25<br>chittvaina\u1e41 sa\u1e41\u015baya\u1e41 yogam<br>\u0101ti\u1e63\u1e6dhotti\u1e63\u1e6dha bh\u0101rata<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Translation- <\/strong>Therefore the doubts which have arisen in your heart out of ignorance should be slashed by the weapon of knowledge.
